This most impressive thing about 90L was that hot-towers were firing over cool waters.

To me, that is a clue as how much juice (high theta-e air) is in the boundary-layer.

That juice, in the GOM and West Carib, is a combination of two sources:

1)  Trop-waves.
2)  EPAC hot water.

Dr Gray's theory is that EPAC hot-water generates higher shear in the Atlantic.

I still don't understand that.  I am trying to research the correlation mechanism.

Anyway, when hot-towers fire, they quickly pump a large amount of latent heat into the upper atmosphere. 

The expansion of the hotter air can direct wind and change the shear around it.
