Actually there was a very heavy, wet snow on October 4, 1987 in Winchester Center, CT, in the northwest corner of the state. We got at least 8 inches. I remember because we had just moved into our Winchester house the previous April, and this was our first experience dealing with heavy snow while living in the boonies.
Hey, I just found an article about the storm in Google Archives, from the New York Times. They called it the "earliest snowstorm on record:"
