OK, so I was wrong ...

2009 did give the Mobile area a named storm, and it gave it as a landfalling named storm right on Alabama shores, just 25 miles southeast of Mobile.

On top of that, to rub in my wrongness, it is a record-setting named storm at that.

Prior to 2009, no November named storm had made landfall in Alabama later than November 1 (1985, Juan), in the record books.

Ida now goes down as this area's latest landfalling named storm.

One might think that that qualifies as just a piece of useless trivia, but it actually represents something more.

Previously, one could conclude that our hurricane season was over in our area on November 1, since no storm on record had ever been near here past that date.  The likelihood was infintescimally small.

Now it expands our hurricane season from June 11 (2005, Arlene, the earliest recorded landfall here), to November 10 (2009, Ida, latest recorded landfall here).

While not significant to some, you have added 9 more days to the season here, which previously had been believed to be a safe zone time period, due to the change in seasons.

If the chicken suit were here, I guess I might be wearing it.
