There was a hurricane that made landfall near Pensacola in early October of 1916, as a Cat 2.

Look that one up and you will see its path and intensity and forward speed.

Now, also take a look at Hurricane Opal, in 1995, which made landfall as a Cat 2, in early October of 1995.

The path, formation area, landfall, time of season, behavior of storm, and forward speed are near identical.

The only difference would be the strength of Opal in the central Gulf was higher than the 1916 hurricane.

Very, very interesting.

Answers the question for me, can lightning strike twice.

Answer is yes.  Might just take 79 years between strikes.
