A Weekend to Watch!

December 16th, 2009 at 5:35 am by Jon Cash under Weather Here we go again!  Cold air is building into the area and will stick around through the weekend and much of next week.  At the same time an area of low pressure is beginning to form near Houston, Texas and will very slowly head east across the Gulf of Mexico through Friday and will then begin to slide up the southeast coast Friday night through Saturday night.  Moisture will spread into the area Friday night and last into Saturday night.  To get a real snowfall in the region this low must be close enough to bring prec. into the area and overcome the dry, cold weather that will be filtering in from the north.  Last January a storm like this brushed our region but the dry air evaporated the moisture before it could hit the ground.  The result:  A busted snow forecast and many angry snow-lovers.  This is a possibility with this storm if it is not close enough to the region.  If the low gets "too" close then warmer air could be pushed into most of the metro area keeping it mainly a rain event before a possible changeover at the end of the storm.  Bottom lineeverything has to go just right to get a real snowfall in the region.  Remember water temps are hovering near 50 degreesthat's real warm for a snow event anywhere near the coast

Current Snow Hope Index is 5.

Stay tuned!
