Your suggestion to dump ice cubes in the gaps where ice is missing might help.
As snow falls down crevices it gets compressed until it is clear and hard.
Perhaps the process of compression could be speeded up by some man made device, but note how large and issolated these sheets are.
The Ross Ice Shelf has had a lot of cloud cover the last few months so I wonder to what extent cracks are repaired by new snowfall as it compresses inside crevices. |
