Pretty good dose of winter this year. Thinking about that because you wondered about a connection between that snow event in Myrtle Beach and the following hurricane season's impact on the US. Strictly hunch here, but I believe the odds of an active season seem to be higher after more pronounced winters than after milder ones. Which makes me think of El Nino. The El Nino this year certainly had an effect on dampening hurricane activity last season. Yet did we really have a typical El Nino type winter, with strong Pacific storms moving in from California resulting in a wetter but milder winter for the country as a whole? Don't think so. El Nino winters usually result in a weather pattern which is more Pacific oriented than Canadian. But this year's El Nino seemed to have incongruent elements about it from the very beginning, which is why many believe that there are different types of El Nino, and that the term "El NIno climate pattern" may be a little simplistic. With that said, I wouldn't be surprised to see us jump right back into our active hurricane cycle this year, with '09 being the anomaly, a dead quiet season stuck right in the middle of an active cycle. Take care Bobbi.
