SHORT RANGE FORECAST DISCUSSION
NWS HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL PREDICTION CENTER CAMP SPRINGS MD
300 AM EST FRI FEB 26 2010

VALID 12Z FRI FEB 26 2010 - 12Z SUN FEB 28 2010

...POWERFUL WINTER STORM CONTINUES FOR THE NORTHEAST...

A VERY STRONG AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO SLAM
MUCH OF THE NORTHEAST U.S. OVER THE NEXT TWO DAYS AS THE STORM
SYSTEM BECOMES BLOCKED BY A LARGE SCALE RIDGE AXIS OVER SOUTHEAST
CANADA. ADDITIONAL AREAS OF HEAVY SNOWFALL ARE EXPECTED FRIDAY
ALONG AN AXIS FROM THE CENTRAL APPALACHIANS WHERE STRONG UPSLOPE
FLOW WILL BE NOTED...NORTHEASTWARD INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE
NORTHERN MID-ATLANTIC AND INTERIOR NEW ENGLAND. HIGH WINDS
THROUGHOUT THIS REGION WILL ALSO BE CONTRIBUTING TO BLIZZARD-LIKE
CONDITIONS. MODERATE TO LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL WILL BE NOTED
CLOSER TO THE COAST ACROSS NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND WHERE MILDER
ATLANTIC INFLOW WILL BE SITUATED. THE STORM IMPACT SHOULD THEN
GRADUALLY TAPER DOWN BY THE START OF THE WEEKEND AS THE LOW
PRESSURE CENTER BEGINS TO WEAKEN. MUCH OF THE EASTERN U.S. WILL
ALSO SEE COLDER THAN NORMAL TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE PERIOD AS A
RESULT OF THE STRONG NORTHEAST LOW CENTER HELPING TO PULL AT LEAST
SOME MODIFIED ARCTIC AIR SOUTHWARD FROM CENTRAL CANADA.
