"But other researchers question the claim, arguing that the pulsations may never escape the suns surface in the first place"

The first thing that came to mind reading that part was the fabric of space time. Any perbubations probably ripple like waves through the fabric of space time, wouldn't you think? Considering the sun is the center of a solar system you would think they could.

IDK, I've only taken your basic physics 1 - 3 and have a lot of geophysical training in school, but just from what I've learned I would imagine they would be correlated. JAC And I have talked about this a few times although this may be a bit different, I still think theres so much we don't know. The mathematical & physical assumptions made in so many theories, laws and governing eqautions all allow for variances that are under an acceptable range. I think to really pin point numbers to the exact decimal you need more "pieces of the puzzle (or eqautions) that we just don't have yet. This kinda of thing being something so small scale relative to the rest of it that it may just now becoming apparent. Science is so cool. I wonder if we'll ever get to what they call "Stage 4" civlization where we have mastered nearly everything.
