In the event of the approach of a hurricane, espeacialy a major hurricane even functional oil rigs are I believe evacuated well in advance of the storm
.If a major storm were to strike the GC anywhere between the LA-Texas border and the Miss -Alabama coast not only will the oil slicks be pushed towards shore, making this situation even worse, but there is a very high risk of still more oil leaks being sprung, due to storm damaged oil industry infrastructure.Practicaly every major hurricane passing over the gulf oil feilds causes damage to that infrastructure leading to at least minor leaks and or spills.
