Excellent blog post. Thanks for sharing!

I'm glad he notes that this system can be seen as a harbinger of things to come later this year, though I do not buy the simple notion that just because we will in all likelihood have a hurricane in June with Alex means we'll have a nasty season. We've seen enough seasons with early activity (monster CV waves in May, storms in April, storms in June) that did not ultimately equate to a crazy season. I think Alex has given us a preview of how other variables may shake down throughout the 2010 season--it paints a picture of low wind shear, boiling SSTs, and anti-cyclones aloft that will ramp up developing storms (even over land, it would seem).

To me the graffiti that Alex has sprayed on the wall of this season stands a chance of becoming prophecy. And this is coming from someone who was openly critical on this board of the aggressive pre-season forecasts that hit the news this past spring.
