He is situated more than a thousand miles from the Gulf Coast--and about that from the Carolina shores, yet he can add a perspective to the overall strength of these systems as they make landfall along our coasts. Most high end storms not only effect our coasts, but have profound impacts hundreds and even thousands of miles inland. It can often give you a comparison of the overall energy of a storm when looking at these effects far inland. Ex. Hazel 1954 (landfall in Carolina--but look at meterological readings in Canada)---or Camille, or the 1935 keys hurricane---met readings far inland told of the extraordinay energy contained in these systems. Anung mentioned something to effect with Audrey in 1957--and the readings measured on the storm in southern Canada.
