Actually that NHC path represents the last time the OFCL model was available, which was about 24 hours ago at the moment which is why it is that far east. (although new models will be coming out shortly so they might put out a new path this run since they just crossed over to code orange.)

I haven't watched the loops too closely today but the big picture is interesting:

I think that area making the Atlantic crossing actually has a fairly good shot at clearing South America. Of course the nearer focus is 97L and seeing if it can find an opening to develop.

Now that's a conga line. We are so close I think to seeing one of those waves coming across make it.
