Jim, I am perplexed by this massive mid- latitude trough pushing further and further south. Whats most interesting is that Earl is now in line with the trough's axis. The steering flow ahead of the trough is NE and this flow is not pulling the cyclone N or NE. However, as we look west along the south edge of the trough an E- NE flow is deep layer from 850 - 500mb which should cause the cyclone to turn more towards the WNW or W towards the Bahamas. Here the flow is SE -NW along a stationary boundary.

I understand that guidance doesn't support my thinking, but will be interesting to see the this process during the night and into tomorrow as the clash is on. I don't see how the cyclone will barrel through that push with those height rises to the north!!!!
