Hey GB, thanks for your thoughts, and for putting Ivan in proper perspective. You're right, of course, about NO's having been a man-made disaster, and I think/hope most if not all people on this board, at least, realize that -- but the country at large? Nope.
Not sure I recall anything about a 70' "wall of water" (perhaps you're referring to the huge built-up waves in the bays that, for instance, took out the I-10 bridge?) Surge here on the front lines was reportedly 12-15', though I know there was some cumulative effect further inland.
We, too, have many belongings either still in the water (Santa Rosa Sound) or (hopefully) in a dump somewhere after the salvage operations of a few years ago. Just can't move every last thing in the garage up into the house before an evac....
