Re: Any reason for recon to go into a remnant low???

NHC tasked flights were canceled earlier today. If it began regenerating, the earliest we would probably see a tasked mission would be Thursday afternoon unless it regenerated significantly in which case they could rush a mission together, though that doesn't happen often.

"ALL REMAINING AIR FORCE FLYING ON THE REMNANTS OF GASTON CANCELED BY NHC AT 07/1130Z."

There are research missions, but I don't follow the PREDICT or GRIP research missions because they don't have real time data that I know of from the flight available to the public. You can track some of the GRIP missions on NASA's site and maybe even PREDICT I have not checked, but you can't get real time weather obs. The NHC gets some obs though as they discuss from time to time. (which is why the chances of Gaston coming back started dropping after one of the research missions went out and then the NHC tasked a mission to go out yesterday and found it poorly defined) My site doesn't track any of those research missions. (I do track the NOAA IFEX research missions with the NOAA P-3's, like for Earl, but none scheduled for Gaston)

"THE NCAR G-V MAY FLY A 7 HR RESEARCH FLIGHT INTO THE REMNANTS GASTON TOMORROW ABOVE 41,000 FT. TAKEOFF TIME 08/1100Z."

Here is the site to keep track with some of those research missions in their tri-agency discussions (IFEX - NOAA / PREDICT - NSF & NCAR / GRIP - NASA):

They mention some of the research missions going out today in what they earlier called "'quasi-comatose' Gaston".

Still hard to tell how Gaston's circulation is doing. We have PR radar:
http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?zoommode=zoom&num=6&delay=50&rbscale=0.7652173913043478&scale=1.000&noclutter=0&ID=JUA&type=N0Z&lat=0&lon=0&label=you&showstorms=99&map.x=428&map.y=296.5&centerx=400&centery=240&lightning=1&smooth=0&showlabels=1&rainsnow=0
And while it still looks at times on satellite like it has a circulation, like even now, it is hard to find on radar.
