Your right 92L did take time to spin up to Karl.

It wasn't really spawned by a wave.

It was more a top down development.

Been reading some blogs on it.

I think the steady moderate rain (stratiform precip) that kept firing over it created a gradual mid-level warm core.

That in turn created a mid-level vorticity, technically called a potential vorticity (PV).

Some how, something needed to kick that down to the surface.

I have read of mechanisms that do that for tail-end cold fronts that work their way to the surface - called baroclinic genesis.

How that happened today, I am still not sure.  

No cold-fronts around, this was all barotropic.

I am wondering if this is a sign of an upcoming trend for the next few weeks.
