It is hardly unusual for intensity guidance to be wrong. NHC constantly reminds us that intensity forecasting remains the weakest link of what they do. I've always said on here that this is the most dangerous vulnerability in hurricane forecasting. When the day comes that people go to sleep one night in Miami thinking they've got a cat 1 on the way and wake up the next morning with a cat 4 barreling down on them, the NHC is going to have a real problem. And the longer our intensity forecasting remains unreliable, the more certain it is that that will happen.
