I heard on the news: A bullet train is reported as a missing.

Also, this quake is very different from Kobe in 95. Kobe was the main port in Japan at that point, one of there most important industrial cities. This region is agriculture - home of many auto-plants. Where Kobe crippled Japan, the rebuilding could prove to be a catalyst to economic growth.

Also with the reports of the Oil Storage Tanks being shattered by the tsunami, it could prove to be helpful to Tokyo when the big one eventually hits.
