It might be stopped by diluting the uranium in a large quantity of fluoride salt to make uranium tetrafluoride (UF4).

A chemical engineer should know which salt to use to make UF4.

If the uranium is dilute enough it might cool down enough for the salt to solidify.

Problems with this idea may be that fluoride gases are probably toxic, and some salt mixtures might readily desolve in water. I don't know.
