I lived in Jax for 6 yrs before moving to Norfolk, Va....The reason for Jax not getting hit is partly because for the most part, the jet stream pretty much moves over it and keeps alot of the hurricanes away. The lst time I remember Jax being hit was back in '05 when that TC developed off the coast and became a TS quickly and moved inland over Mayport.  I'm more worried about Norfolk, Va as people here don't take TC very seriously due in part that they think that the TC won't come here because of the water temps.  One thing is for sure, for reports of people who lived through Hugo in my Hometown of Sumter, SC was that when Hugo hit Charleston, It moved so quickly inland that the warm waters of the rivers is what kept feeding it so far inland, whether this is true or not, I don't know.  I worry about Charleston this year as well.
