Just trying to see the positive side to our severely dry weather condition here in the coastal Florida Big Bend. Yes, the yards look brown and crunchy with grass and gardens parched from lack of rain for such a long time. But, blessedly (at the beach), there have been very few biting bugs. It seems strange to be outside and not be swarmed by no-seeums or mosquitoes. The other odd but nice condition is the clarity of the surf. We have nearby rivers here in the Big Bend that carry dark colored sediment into our beachfront waters during heavy rain events. With no rain, the nearshore surf has been amazingly light-colored and clear for several weeks now which makes it pleasant for swimming and lovely to view.
I realize that the downside to these benefits is a looming water shortage and a tinderbox of fuel for wildfires that are already burning out of control with loss of life and property. I am feeling a bit selfishly guilty for enjoying the pleasure of no bugs and clear surf. |
