Interesting. I've long thought that the atmosphere and lithosphere are more interrelated than most think it is. It's plausible to me since lower pressure equates to less mass over that region of lower pressure so it would change the balance. I believe in the hydrostatic equation the lithosphere's effects are assumed to be neglible; however I would imagine the balance would still be exist and would be more of some gravational balance that would alter the equilibrium at some point where the crust is prone to slight altercations to that said balance. That would be my take unless I overlooked something.
