JAC,
Whats helping maintain Don are the convective flare-ups. As usual the diurnal pulse has fired over the vortex. Shear has become more NE- Easterly, but remains moderate around 20kts at the 200-400mb level is under cutting the mid-level vortex. Latest mircrowave imagery show warming tops and a small core with little banding. His vigorous vorticity will sustain Don through landfall @ TS strength as the upper air dynamics have improved slightly.
The storm is between two upper lows one to the east and the other to the west. However, very restricted to the N-E. Both are producing some ventilation, but not the turbo like evacuation of surface inflow into the tropopause.. |
