Plus the sea surface temperatures are decreasing due to the updwelling from Irene and now Katia and tons of dry air. This is why Maria should not intensify to a major storm and then recurve if she gets near the Bahamas. I would say that the northeastern Gulf and/or the Caribean are the hot spots for the rest of the season due to the amount of dry air around. We here in New England  usually get are biggest storms in August. The exception was Gloria in 1985 and the great New England hurricane of 1938. I went through Carol in 1954, Donna in 1960 which came across Florida from the Gulf side and up the coast,Belle in 1976, Gloria in 1985, Bob in 1991, and Tropical Storm Irene last month. The worst was Carol in 1954 when I lived in Mystic,Ct. Bob  in 1991 was 2nd which just came to the east of me here in Westerly,RI, Gloria in 1985 was mainly a wind storm here In Westerly,RI with very little rain.
