kinda agree with weathercritic here, but definitly think this will be great.

My professor talked about this in class and the advantages of this kinda of venture incorporates more than just simple short term forecasting but to help further understand how inner dynamics of these systems work. They are the least understood from a scientific perspective, thus the difficulities forecasting intensity. Everything we've got today is from better data to understand how things work. This is why ENSO is in it's infancy in a sense still because it was only in the past 20 years that we had the data needed to even spot such a phenomena.

I think it's good, but IDK about right now, unless a university is fronting the bill for it as a research based mission only instead of using it for both that and operational purposes. In that sense I agree with Jim, from the get go it's not gonna give us what we need really instantaneously, but the data and associed model runs that cypress was talking about will help in the long term to improve forecasting in the future. I don't know if we need it right this minute when the money issues are so bad. That's someones salary for a year in 90 minutes. :/ Id rather a mother or father keep their job then loose it in budget cuts for the wrong reasons.

Again, rather see this as a research based mission handled by a university like FSU from grants given by private organizations. Not tax money.
