Very informational.  It is interesting to see that hurricanes today are larger than what they were say 50 yrs ago, which would mean their wind field expands out further, and as Jim pointed out just because of how far the winds go out does not denote a hit or a brush from a hurricane.  Storm surges in of themselves are devestating to landmasses in reguards to beach errosion as what happened to the Flordia coastline in 2007 or 2008 I think....(help me out if i'm wrong).  Nearby hurricanes hundreds of miles off the coast wrecked havoc along the beaches causing massive errosion.
