Consecutive years without a Major hitting the US Coast is not 6(2006-current)

I keep hearing that with this past year with no Majors making landfall on the US coast sets a record for consecutive years without a major making landfall at 6. But That is wrong, we need to go 2 more years to tie the record of 8 and 3 more to set record. between 1861-1868(8 years) no Majors made landfall on the US coast. why is this not considered the longest stretch without a major??????
