Well, keep in mind that surface pressures are pretty high in the vicinity of this wave right now, so it would seem that any development will not be imminent, despite this morning's rapid blow-up of convection.

As for future direction, I was taking a look at WV loop of the lower 48 this morning, and one interesting scenario is the ridge firmly entrenched over the midwest, the eastern fringe of which seems to be asserting itself into the deep south. As you'll see in this loop, it's swinging down toward the gulf coast, which might keep the wave on a more westerly course if it enters the eastern GoM. Click "24 Hours" below the graphic for a longer-term view of how the ridge is moving--I think it will be the deciding factor in where the wave ends up . . .
