New models from the Hurricane Forecast Improvement Program (HFIP)

This morning I noticed some new hurricane models that I had either not seen or not been able to find before. After doing some research I have now added their names into the HurricaneCity model system. Some models were available in various places but now they are appearing in the NHC's Automated Tropical Cyclone Forecasting System (ATCF).

Sources mainly come from the HFIP 2011 Annual Report on this page:
http://www.hfip.org/documents/reports2.php
There is a lot of great information in that document. I especially recommend the chart at the end of the report with some information on how the models have performed previously in testing.

Most of these models just became live in the public ATCF system. (NHC has been testing them, but not they are in the public model file for storms.) Stream 1.5 real-time activities started August 1st and run through Oct 31st, 2012. Not sure what happens after that.

More information here:  http://www.hfip.org/documents/

Links to the model names and brief descriptions here (both on the same page)...

GFDL Ensemble:

Consider these descriptions a beta product for now.  The GFDL source comes from here:
http://nomads.gfdl.noaa.gov/nomads/forms/hurricane/AboutGFE.html
Previously, most of what I list as GFDL ensemble members were previously listed as GFS members as well. The source above comes from the person doing the project, so I am going with what they say since the NHC's listing has not been updated since last year and the GFDL site says "GP** members represent ATCF output from GFDL's (internal) vortex tracker".

Also some model sources from NHC's 2011 Verification Report:
