I'm certainly not saying that Isaac is or will become Frederic, but for comparison purpose only as to how Isaac looks,

Frederic nearly died out on Cuba, after spending nearly two days on Hispaniola and Cuba landmasses.  When he exited Cuba, he was a tropical depression with winds of 35 mph.  In less then 36 hours, his winds were over 100 mph and he would become a Cat 3 not too long after.

So just for argument sake, I'm not going to write off Isaac, because he is still sucking stable air off of Cuba.  When he hits the Florida Straits and GOMEX in earnest, I think the strengthening will begin in earnest.

Again, not saying they are the same, but same scenario on a storm being dead and then ramping up.

Opal was nearly dead on the Yucatan and came back to be a Cat 4.

Dennis, dropped to a TS, then ramped to a Cat 3.

Isaac still has 900+ miles to another landfall.  That's a long distance of hot water to go over.
