Ike was a category 2 at landfall - 110 mph

They never did any kind of post season upgrade. Recon was all over that storm at landfall and it definitely was not any stronger than 110 mph sustained winds.
That is the one issue with the wind scale. Ike was not technically a major hurricane, in terms of wind, in Texas, though it was a powerful hurricane with major impacts.
That first image is one of the best images ever taken. Nothing is more clear than that of what can happen. |
