LONG ISLAND PERSPECTIVE

Although it looks like this storm will come onshore south of us here on LI - We are in for a bumpy ride over the next 48 hours - they are predicting sustained winds of 50-60mph with gusts of 70+.... Having been through a major hurricane, I'am hoping for the best as the inconvenience of an extended power outage is not fun to say the least.

I have been on this site almost since it's inception & have grown to count on Hurricane City as a solid indicator as to whether or not we need to keep our eyes glued to the tropics from up here in NY - To this point Jim has always done a great job getting out in front of these systems and keeping us aware of each storms potential.

With that said, I have to say I was left scratching my head after reading a few of the "updates" that called for "A weakening Sandy to be pulling away from the coast" Even as recently as Thursday.

Was the lack of foresight/interest in this storm due to it becoming "extra-tropical" at some point?  Or was it initially just a swing & a miss for HC? Just my opinion, but I know many people come to this site for Jim's expertise & trust his forecasts more than they do that of their local meterologists.

Stay safe,

Jimbo
