Re: Live shows at HurricaneCity ending

I had been thinking out about ending the shows for quite some time even before Sandy. The thing that keeps going through my mind is that I bet most of the subscribers are probably living week to week and would be better served holding onto their money. I know these people have done it to truly support HC and I really appreciate especially those that have been there since day one. For every new subscriber either one or two cancel and it is up & down like a roller coaster but overall a pain to maintain the list 258 cancel 50 subscribe does not make sense.  The disappointment is with some of the wealthy people and potential advertisers I have run across that said they would help fund the project and either didn't or put very little into it. The way I look at it is if you cant put together a really cool product how would you expect people to support it? With that said I know looking at HC from a neutral standpoint it is a good product that I should not have to fund at all.  The thing that is most maddening is my mailing list has nearly 1700 subscribers about the next show only to have 50 subscribers donate and 20 watching the live shows with maybe 100 for the kickoff, so where are all these people from the mailing list? I have had people tell me it's about the economy, really?  I see other sites & chasers making quite a bit of money by simply putting a camera on a dashboard for example Reed Timmer has raised like $15,000 in a few months that's more than HC raises in a few years and it's not even live. Honestly I trimmed alot of cost's down anyways with ustream instead of hosting my own, I went to godaddy instead of using my own server and have cut down on overall expenses,so I can basically fund it myself. If simply putting a camera on a dashboard is the way then I will go that route but at least I wont have to worry about mixing boards, phone couplers etc; I very rarely beg for money on the shows because I think it's in bad taste digging in people's pockets like the work for food signs.  I was going to do a show on this but it would just come across a whining so I decided not to and have decided to fund it myself and do things on the site when I see fit without killing myself. Bill Phillips also is trying to complete college at old dominion university and takes time away from studies to cover snow, tornadoes & hurricanes like he did for Sandy but there is too much sacrifice all the way around to justify the means. I look at Chris Tropical Atlantic site and he never begs either & produces some really good products. In fact if I would suggest if you donate to donate to Tropical Atlantic as a lot of sites making money are using some of his products. I know some of you may be thinking why not beg why not pump yourself up to get attention,  I cant speak for Chris but I know that is not the way I roll. I am serious this is not a rant for subscribers as I have already taken the subscribe links off the site. I am asking that people wake up and pay attention to where products come from and not personalities. BTW canetalk was created by Chris too and I see other boards making thousands, it's just ridiculous which is why I am cutting my time in this project, help support Chris and i'll do it out of pocket with the help of ads.
