Am wondering why the name Erin wasn't retired after a storm of the same name made landfall near Pensacola Beach in August, 1995, after a prior landfall as a Cat. 1 at Vero Beach. Is it because it was "only" a Cat. 2? Did plenty of damage anyway -- the house we live in was practically destroyed - was condemned and had to be largely rebuilt. We weren't here then but have seen pics, and it's as if the front of the house were peeled back like a sardine can lid. Rumor has it a storm-spawned tornado did the deed, but we'll never know for sure. Anyway, I DO NOT LIKE storms named Erin. Ha. |
