I'm starting to think you're right, Jim.  That would be an astounding mark.  

I wish anyone could put their finger on the "why" of the season though.  It's as if the Atlantic Basin has become a vast dried out, stable air mass, with tiny pockets of weak thunderstorms and empty vortices.  There hasn't even many ULLs.  

The Bermuda High is already looking like its backing off into its fall position.  

It's like somebody took the windless doldrums and spread them out over the entire Atlantic.
