Re: September landfalls

It's amazing to look at so many hurricane landfalls while we are currently in a season where we have not even seen a single hurricane. Seven storms and no hurricane. I think we might even see an eighth storm that doesn't become a hurricane, like 2011, if 99L in the Gulf developed briefly or the disturbance next to Gabrielle was able to do something in the short term.

20th was sure busy. Only major hurricanes and none hitting Florida, even though Florida is the big winner/loser, depending on the perspective, when it comes to 36 landfalls.

It kind of seems, although I didn't do an exact count, like there is more older major hurricanes that made landfall in the month of September than more recent ones. If so though, I'm not sure if it is because they are happening more earlier and/or later in the year or simply less so.
