NASA's Global Hawk UAV dropped a record number of sondes into 95L last night

These have been research missions, it was not because 95L was threatening at that point. The Global Hawk UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) also investigated Humberto when it was no threat, going where other recon cannot go. Hopefully it gets good research on why things do not develop as well as why things do. The month of research missions with the Global Hawk is winding down, scheduled to end on September 23rd.

But 95L's mission was a bit notable:

"During this mission to the Gulf of Mexico, 88 sondes were deployed, which is a new record and the maximum capacity of the dispenser."

The above mission mapping for 95L is not available on my site yet, but I did for the first time create a track, using sondes, of the Global Hawk offline.

I was just able to get enough things working offline just to create a nice looking image. In Google Earth clicking a sonde crashed Google Earth, so I have a long way to go before I start having that data available to the public in Google Earth, and longer before it ever appeared live. But shortly I will have until next year before the Global Hawk will be at it again. I do have sonde data here from last night's mission that I added manually.
