Technically, the NHC calls for a peak of 70mph now rather than 75mph, but you are not talking about much of any real difference. It's 65mph now, so we're not taking about much change forecast from here whether or not it is 5 or 10mph. With the shear, it's going to be extra hard to forecast. You never know how long a storm will be able to fight before it succumbs eventually and starts weakening.

It's unfortunate about all those events. Of course cancelling is the right thing to do. At the very least it is going to be rainy and a bit windy and those are not the conditions to enjoy those events. And you would not want to be in or near any kind of tent which can very easily blow around.

From the 10pm CDT discussion on Thursday:

"IT
IS BECOMING LESS REALISTIC THAT KAREN WILL BECOME A HURRICANE IN A
DAY OR TWO...BUT GIVING CREDIT TO SOME DYNAMICAL MODELS...LIKE THE
HWRF...WHICH DO SO...THE NHC FORECAST CALLS FOR A SLIGHT
STRENGTHENING."

And 5mph is as slight as you can get.
