Where I live is not quite as bad as I thought for storm surge flooding. To pump the most water into Tampa Bay, the storm needs to make landfall north of the bay. But then water is likely to be pushed just a bit more toward the western side of the bay depending on the track. Thanks to the way the land is shaped around me, the rise might be even less. (more so than in 1921 I think due to the land being changed since then, which I think might be part of what the SLOSH model is picking up on) However, for a very powerful storm water would simply be coming up over the land completely regardless of the shape of the land.

If the storm was well north of me and pushing the water toward me, chances are it would not be pushing it as well into Tampa Bay since the storm would be further north. I would get more than the west side of the bay then, but the overall water pushed into the bay should be less. So either way my area is a little better off than a lot of areas around the bay. Not much, a few feet at most, but that could make a big difference. It's interesting that there could be so much difference in such a small area. Up to about five feet between my house and downtown Tampa in the 1921 scenario.
