I grew up in Dunedin (~10 miles south of Tarpon Springs), the old man who lived next door used to us tell stories about this one. He remembered it vividly. I believe this was the storm that split Hog Island in two forming what is now Hurricane Pass and creating what is now called Honeymoon Island to the north, and Caladesi to the south. The neighbor's story I remember best was about the hog farmer who lived on the island, The storm surge completely washed over the island taking away his home, hogs, and family. He only survived by hanging onto a pine tree. |
