Sandy was very much two different types of storms all at once, pretty much a hurricane inside a nor'easter. The video explains the difference between tropical and winter like storms. I am curious how many storms there have been like Sandy. It's not like it was a simple transition from tropical to post-tropical, it really had characteristics of both for an extended period of time. Even up until not too long before landfall the hurricane at the center was trying to make a comeback.

I meant to post about that but forgot. Offshore there were some massive waves.

Another anniversary during this week is of Mitch, fifteen years since that storm killed an unknown number of people, though perhaps up to as many as around 20,000.
