The national weather service in new york has issued a coastal flood advisory...Which is in effect from 6 AM to noon EST Thursday. A coastal flood watch has also been issued. This coastal flood watch is in effect Thursday evening.

* Locations...Atlantic ocean facing shorelines...New york harbor...And the shorelines of the south shore of long island.

* Tidal departures...1 to 1 1/2 feet above astronomical high tide at the times of high tide Thursday morning...And then 1 1/2 to 2 feet above astronomical high tide Thursday evening.

* Beach erosion...Minor to moderate beach erosion...Mainly with the high tides Thursday evening.

* Timing...Within an hour either side of the times of astronomical high tides Thursday morning...And then again Thursday evening. the most significant coastal flooding will occur Thursday evening.

* Impacts...For Thursday morning...Localized flooding of the most vulnerable shore roads and/or basements due to height of storm tide. There is no significant threat to life and any impact on property is minimal. For Thursday evening...The potential exists for a more widespread flooding event.

* Outlook...The potential for widespread coastal flooding exists with the high tide cycle Friday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

A coastal flood watch means that conditions favorable for flooding are expected to develop. Coastal residents should be alert for later statements or warnings...And take action to protect property.
