Unlike you, a lot of people made poor decisions when it came to traveling in a storm like this. Other people should have taken the day off too. (or worked from home if possible)
Is your region used to something like that often? If it is unusual, it was probably worse since there were many more trees that were susceptible. If an area got hit like this again and again, you might have less chance for the trees to grow back. If the area doesn't get this kind of ice storm often, there is a lot more trees to come down when it does happen and a lot more to cleanup at once. Although here, due to hurricanes and other severe wind storms, they try to keep the power lines away from the trees. They'll whack out a quarter of a tree or more, or take the whole tree, if it is something they think could be a problem in a storm. They seemed to have increased that lately around me. |
