The turnout in Tampa was not very good. Most places said tours would be from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. (One place said noon.) I showed up at 3:30pm and I was the last person to show up. There were only a couple visitors there, well outnumbered by many times over by the NOAA personnel and state and local government agencies. I hope it was because it was very hot and not indicative of the general public in Tampa not caring to be as prepared. Or maybe it was because the NOAA hurricane hunters are based here, although you do not get to tour one of their planes often. I guess they did have a lot of students earlier in the day, although not as many as other stops.

I took a few pictures, but unfortunately the NHC director had already left for Miami. I had known one of the hurricane hunters there so I talked to him for a bit.

I was hoping to get some video of them taking off, but after staying in the same spot just off the runway for almost half an hour, they turned around and parked where they had been. They must have had some kind of mechanical issue.
