At 2pm the NOAA hurricane hunters will be back out and there will be live radar loops in Google Earth.

Updates from NOAA's Hurricane Research Division's blog:

"The unmanned aircraft, the Global Hawk is also flying over Tropical Storm Erika

The Global Hawk took off this morning from Wallops Island, VA at 7AM for its first flight of the Atlantic hurricane season. The Global Hawk is an unmanned aircraft and it will fly for 24 hours over Tropical Storm Erika. The Global Hawk is part of NOAA's Sensing Hazards with Operational Unmanned Technology (SHOUT) field campaign. It will be launching dropwindsones as well as gather data with other meteorological instruments on board. Below is the flight track for the Global Hawk. The colors represent a model forecast temperature field displayed in units of Kelvin."

"NOAA's P3 hurricane hunter aircraft continues flights into Tropical Storm Erika

NOAA's P-3 hurricane hunter aircraft will fly a Tail Doppler Radar (TDR) operational mission into Tropical Storm Erika. The P3 will depart at 2:00PM local time from Barbados and fly a six and a half hour mission. This flight is operationally tasked by NOAA's Environmental Modeling Center (EMC). This means that EMC has requested this flight into Erika. The Doppler radar data collected during this and future TDR missions will be transmitted in near realtime to NOAA's hurricane weather forecast model. The data is then ingested into the model to improve the model's intensity and track forecasts. The dots on the flight track (shown in green) represent the aircraft turn points. The red dots in the figure show the locations that launch weather balloons twice a day while the purple dots are the locations that launch balloons once a day."
