For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Fred, located several hundred miles west-northwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
1. A well-organized tropical wave will move off of the west coast of Africa several hundred miles southeast of the Cape Verde Islands later today. Conditions appear conducive for gradual development over the weekend and into early next week as the system moves generally westward at 15 to 20 mph. * Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent * Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent
