Recon data after 7pm EDT indicate the storm is still at least maintaining its strength. The 30 second flight level winds were higher than they have been yet in the storm, 123 kts (141.5 mph). Ten second flight level of 126 knots (~ 145.0 mph). The SFMR, 10 second estimated surface wind, was not the highest it has been for the storm, but still at 114 kts (131.2 mph). I would estimate the current intensity at 130 mph based on the 114 knot SFMR being next to a 113 knot reading, another high 10 second reading, that occurred in the prior 30 seconds before that. This occurred in that intense convection SE of the center, which, based on movement, might be where the strongest winds could be expected.

I'm not sure why the NHC did not upgrade it slightly at 8pm EDT. But regardless, it remains a deceptively powerful storm. Who would think it would be this strong with this appearance?

Some images have vortex messages from previous missions. 5pm track.
