Ah! Right. I had forgotten that the calculations contributing to a hurricane's wind speeds as documented officially in an NHC advisory INCLUDE the storm's forward speed. What I have in mind, for example, is how, say, the wind speeds in a very fast-moving storm like Hazel or the 1938 Long Island 'cane were enhanced by that fast forward motion. So, folks in the Carolinas and in New England experienced such strong winds not only because of the intensity of those storms, but also because the speed with which they blasted through intensified their winds.
