I can't remember who asked about how airlines interact with storm warnings, but I advised I would ask a friend of mine who is retired from U.S. Air, and here is his response...
"I'm fairly certain that every airline has their own policy--I know we did when I was actively flying a few years ago--and that they are very conservative, not only canceling flights early to the affected area but also repositoning aircraft so that they are not in the affected areas either."
